As an exercise it might be fun to create a medieval village full of characters.

Here's Garth the Tavern Keeper. He's the guy who's always convinced that there's something horrible going on. So he's always on the lookout for a traveling hero to set it straight. But then, as a tavern keeper, isn't that really part of his job... ?
